Irish Chain

This quilt was pieced by my guild sister Emily. She embroidered the paisleys and had backed them with batting so it gave it a faux trapunto look. I quilted a freehand swirly feather design all over, taking care to avoid the paisleys. (November 2014)

I used So Fine #492 which is a soft yellow but reads more like an ivory. Doesn't this quilt look great on my bed? I think I need one!

If you look closely at the following picture you can see that I managed to sew my hopping foot down! I'm not exactly sure how this happened since it happened so quickly. This is a spot where the seam was not sewn properly (there was a gap in the piecing) and my hopping foot just happened to flip it up and somehow tangled itself up! I was able to cut it free without damaging the quilt top. I just pointed the spot out to my customer so that she could tack it down by hand.

Lightning

In November 2014 I quilted these two Lightning McQueen charity quilts with an all over meander.

There was a bit of extra space on one quilt so I loaded a strip of junk fabric and let my 8 year old daughter take a spin on my machine.

Christmas Quilt

I realize that I have been horrible about updating the blog with pictures of quits I have quilted. This one was quilted last year as a charity quilt for our guild. I quilted an all over holly and loops design.

What is a charity quilt? It is a quilt that will be donated to charity. When i quilt these quilts, I do not receive any type of payment. I do it as a way to give service to my community and as a way to practice :)

Finishes

Thursday, November 6, 2014
Here are a few of the projects I have worked on recently:

First is a charity quilt that was pieced by a member of the Murfreesboro Quilting Bees. I decided to do a custom quilt job on this quilt top. The thick seams were giving me trouble so I decided to try my hand at quilting in manual mode. Most of this was done with the stitch regulator off. Overall it was good practice for me.
Here is shot of the back. Everything was done free hand and I added a little ruler work to the top. There was one area where I couldn't decide what to do. The block that is closest to the camera in the picture below is what I am referring to. The maker of this quilt somehow got this block turned around without realizing it. I couldn't decide whether I should ignore the block and quilt the motif to match the other blocks or whether I should just rotate the design. In the end I chose to rotate the design even if the back of the quilt looked different. I figured the front of the quilt is what will be looked at more often and I didn't want to accentuate the fact that the block was wrong. Of course if this had been a client quilt I would have called and asked how they would have liked for me to deal with this.

Here is a UFO I quilted for Nannette who took advantage of my Penny Meander Sale. Nannette did a wonderful job piecing this top, pressing her seams and squaring up her quilt top. It was a dream to quilt up. For this quilt I actually used Connecting Threads "Essential" cotton thread in "Gold." It was perfect for these jewel toned fall colors.

Here is another charity quilt I quilted up for our guild. I'll have to find a picture of the whole thing. I quilted it with all over organic waves to add vertical movement to the braided panels. I also used "Essential" cotton thread on this one in a lovely "Rust" color.

Practicing

I have been practicing a new all over design. I don't know what to call it yet. There are swirls, hooked swirls and feathered swirls in this one. Its really fun to stitch out!

Penny Meander Sale

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Let me help you finish up those quilts you plan on gift giving for Christmas. Through the end of October the all over meander design is only $0.01 per square inch ($20 min. charge.) This is regularly $0.015 per square inch.

To get your quilt in "line" simply fill out the "Get a Quote" form and submit 1/2 the payment before October 31st.

You can combine multiple projects onto the same backing and batting in order to meet the minimum charge and save money! For example, two baby quilts can fit on a twin size batting and share the same backing. Any quilt larger than 45"x "45 would meet the minimum charge.

Please note that I do limit the number of quilts I take in per month. If I get too many requests I may end the sale early. I do not want to hoard your quilts for months! Right now I can have your quilt back to you in 1-2 weeks.
